LG has announced its new Smart Home AI Agent, which brings together robotic, AI, and multi-modal technologies, allowing it to move, learn, comprehend, and engage in complex conversations.
The company says that its Smart Home AI Agent is an ‘all-around home manager and companion’ which aligns with the company’s “Zero Labor Home” vision.
The LG robot is powered by the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 Platform and comes equipped with a built-in camera, speaker, and various sensors that collect real-time environmental data, such as temperature, humidity, and indoor air quality. With its two-legged wheel design, the AI agent can navigate the home independently. The intelligent device can verbally interact with users and express emotions through movements made possible by its articulated leg joints.
In addition, the Smart Home AI Agent uses multi-modal AI technology, which integrates voice and image recognition with natural language processing. This empowers the intelligent home AI agent to understand context and intentions while actively engaging in communication with users.
According to Lyu Jae-cheol, the president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, the AI agent combines advanced communication capabilities with autonomous mobility and AI technology to help customers with household chores.
The robot can connect and control various smart home appliances and household IoT devices. It also acts as a pet monitor and security guard, allowing users to remotely monitor their pets and receive alerts if any unusual activity is detected. When no one is at home, the device autonomously patrols the house and sends notifications to the user’s smartphone. Additionally, it helps conserve energy by connecting with a smart outlet and turning off unused devices throughout the house.
The LG Smart Home AI Agent also greets users at the front door, analyses their voice and facial expressions to discern their emotions, and selects music or other content to suit their mood. Furthermore, it analyses transportation details, weather updates, personal schedules, and reminders to take medications for users.
LG is set to showcase its latest smart home AI agent at CES 2024 from January 9-12.
