Super Bowl LVII will screen in 4K and Dolby Vision, but there’s a catch | TechRadar

[ad_1]

Super Bowl LVII takes place on Sunday, February 12, when football fans will get to see the mighty Kansas City Chiefs take on the equally formidable Philadelphia Eagles. It promises to be a hair-raising match, one that over 100 million-plus viewers in the US will tune into on TV screens big and small.

The good news this year for owners of the best 4K TVs is that the game will be transmitted in 4K with Dolby Vision high dynamic range. Think of how incredible that will look – every detail, from the mesh of the players’ uniforms to the light reflected off their helmets should come through with vivid, startling clarity. But there’s a catch: only subscribers to Comcast’s Xfinity X1 cable service will be able to watch the game in the Dolby Vision HDR format.

Netflix Spatial Audio-compatible titles
Netflix brings its impressive Spatial Audio sound to even more shows

[ad_1]

It was big news when, in July 2022, Netflix teamed up with audio behemoth Sennheiser to bring Spatial Audio support to a handful of the former’s original movies and TV shows for customers on its premium plan, without the need for specialist headphones that support it.

At the time of announcement, that support was limited to tentpole projects like Stranger Things, The Adam Project and The Witcher – but now, Netflix has announced plans to expand spatial audio compatibility to over 700 existing and upcoming titles.

iPhone 16 Pro Max may house a periscope camera
iPhone 16 Pro Max may house a periscope camera

[ad_1]

Apple is reportedly planning on including a new periscope camera in iPhone 16 Pro Max. This lens will allow users to take photos and videos from a much wider angle than ever before. However, it appears that Apple may be limiting the use of this lens to the iPhone 16 Pro Max only.
If rumours are to be believed, Apple may limit the periscope lens technology to the Pro models due to the space that the hardware requires. Similarly, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo took to Twitter where he mentioned that periscope lens technology will be exclusively seen in the rumoured iPhone 16 Pro Max model.

Kuo tweeted: “My latest survey indicates only one/highest-end new iPhone 16 model in 2H24 will have the periscope camera, not the two models the market expected.
“Therefore, the contribution of the periscope camera to the demand for lens upgrades may be lower than the market consensus.”

Kuo’s information contradicts a recent report from The Elec, which mentioned that “Folded Zoom” periscope lens would be available in both the ‌iPhone‌ 16 Pro and the ‌iPhone‌ 16 Pro Max next year.
The analyst also mentioned that previously it was predicted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max “will adopt the periscope camera”.
“The market expected that adding periscope cameras to more iPhone models would drive demand for lens upgrades in 2023-2024,” Kuo added.
What is a periscope lens?
Periscope lens allows the light to reflect through an angled mirror towards the image sensor located in the camera. The directional shift allows for a “folded” telephoto lens system for improved optical zoom capabilities without the blurriness that comes with digital zoom.
However, the Periscope lens technology is already used by smartphone manufacturers like Samsung. Meanwhile, the ‌iPhone 15‌ Pro Max is likely to offer up to 6x optical zoom, an improvement over the current 3x optical zoom in the iPhone 14 Pro models.
For the last few years, the Pro and Pro Max iPhones have offered similar features, and battery life has been the main distinguishing feature between the devices aside from display size.
Limiting periscope zoom technology to the Pro Max will likely frustrate those who like to have the latest technology but who do not care for the larger 6.7-inch size.
It remains to be seen if Apple will change their mind and make this lens available on other iPhones as well.

PS Plus Collection will bow out in May: Here’s how to claim the games while there’s time

[ad_1]

PS Plus Collection that offers an assorted bundle of popular games, including God of War (2018), The Last of Us, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will not be available for PlayStation 5 users from May 9, Sony has said.
Sony rolled out the PS Plus Collection back in November 2020, when the PS5 first came out. Understandably, the collection of games was a way to entice PS5 players to get the PS Plus subscription. Since then, the console giant has introduced Extra and Premium tiers that offer a more appealing lineup of games via Game Catalog and Classic Catalog. And now, it seems like the company has finally decided to let go of the PS Plus Collection.

Players can still claim PS Plus Collection games until May 9
For PS5 players with an active PS Plus subscription, there is still plenty of time to make the most of the collection. Sony has reiterated that those who claim PS Plus Collection games before they are taken down will be able to have uninterrupted access to those games as long as their subscription is ongoing. Once the user has claimed the games, he/ she can choose to download them at will.
How to claim PS Plus Collection games on PS5
Claiming PS Plus Collection games is as easy as they come. Here are the steps as mentioned on the official website.

  1. On the Games home screen, navigate to the PS Plus tile and select it.
  2. Scroll down to the “Benefits” tab and select “PlayStation Plus Collection”.
  3. Then, proceed to highlight the desired game and select “Download.”

If you miss out on claiming a game before the deadline, you will only be able to grab it for a price on the PS Store – unless you have access to Game Catalog available with Extra and Premium tiers.
