Itel A70 is expected to launch in India soon and the Chinese smartphone maker is planning on launching the handset with 128GB or 256GB of inbuilt storage, according to a report. The design of the upcoming smartphone has also surfaced online, showing off four colour options and the handset’s display with a large notch for the selfie camera module. The handset is also said to be the first in this price segment to debut with 256GB of storage, under the Rs. 8,000 mark.

A 91Mobiles report citing unnamed sources states that the Itel A70 will be the first smartphone in India to be priced below Rs. 8,000 with 256GB of inbuilt storage. The company’s upcoming smartphone will also be equipped with 12GB of RAM, according to the report — this reportedly includes 4GB of virtual RAM, a that can utilise unused storage on the phone as virtual memory.

The report also contains an image of the handset in four colourways. The company will launch the successor to the Itel A60 in green, light blue, blow, and yellow colour options, according to the report. The image also reiterates the claim that the smartphone will be available in 128GB and 256GB storage configurations.

The Itel A70 is shown to have a large chin and thick bezels on all other sides, along with a wide display notch cutout that houses the selfie camera and a front-facing LED flash. The power and volume buttons seem to be located on the right spine as the left side is only shown with a SIM tray.

The company is yet to announce a launch date for the Itel A70 in India, or confirm any of the specifications mentioned in the report. Earlier this month, the phone maker launched a 4GB+64GB RAM and storage configuration of the Itel A05s smartphone in the country, priced at Rs. 6,099, two months after the phone was launched in India in October with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of RAM.

Ripple CEO deepfake controversy

The crypto community has witnessed the rise of a new deepfake featuring Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of US-based crypto solutions provider Ripple. In the deceptive video that was previously available on YouTube, the Ripple CEO urged people to invest their XRP tokens in a specified deal with a promise to double them. The video also includes a QR code that takes unsuspecting victims to a fake website, raising potential financial risks. This is just another example of the rise in XRP scams lately.

Astonishingly, the unlisted video has still not been taken down by Google, as per the reports. Concerned Redditors contacted the Menlo Park-based tech giant. Still, its Belief and Security Staff reportedly denied the request, citing that the advertisement did not violate its policies, and even asked for more information to be provided within six months.

What is a deepfake?

According to a National Cybersecurity Alliance report, deepfakes are artificial intelligence-generated videos, images, and audio that are edited or manipulated to make anyone say or do anything that they did not do in real life. Deepfakes can be used to defraud, manipulate, and defame anyone, be it a celebrity, politician, or common people. NCA said, “if your vocal identity and sensitive information got into the wrong hands, a cybercriminal could use deepfaked audio to contact your bank.”

OnePlus 12R colour options have been leaked online, ahead of the handset’s debut in India and global markets. The successor to the OnePlus 11R is expected to debut as a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 3, which will succeed the OnePlus Ace 2. A few days before the Ace 3 handset is launched in China, the company has revealed its design in a video. Details of the upcoming OnePlus phones have also surfaced online over the past few weeks, including processor, battery, camera and display specifications.

Tipster Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) leaked the colour options of the upcoming OnePlus 12R model in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The phone is seen in Black and Blue colour options in the leaked promotional image and teaser video. This phone is seen to feature a similar design as the OnePlus Ace 3. The OnePlus 12R is confirmed to launch globally and in India on January 23 alongside the OnePlus 12.

 

Meanwhile, the Chinese smartphone maker shared a video on a Weibo post, that shows the OnePlus Ace 3 in a gold colour option. The teaser also reveals the design of the smartphone. The phone is seen with a similar design language as the preceding OnePlus Ace 2. The upcoming handset is seen with a curved display, glass back panel and metal middle frame. A slightly raised circular rear camera module is seen placed in the top left corner of the rear panel.

Previous leaks have suggested that the OnePlus 12R is expected to launch in Cool Blue and Iron Grey colour options. The phone is expected to be available in configurations of 8GB and 6GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 or 256GB of UFS 4.0 onboard storage. It is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and is likely to boot Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 out-of-the-box.

The OnePlus 12R has also been tipped to feature a 6.78-inch LTPO 4.0 ProXDR panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz along with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. It is also likely to carry a 50-megapixel IMX890 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel macro shooter at the back and a 16-megapixel sensor in the front. The phone is also expected to be backed by a 5,500mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging support.

The OnePlus Ace 3 is expected to debut in China with similar specifications as the OnePlus 12R, which will arrive in global markets as a rebranded version of the same phone. An earlier report suggested that the phone will be launched by the company in China on January 4.

The newest Galaxy A-series smartphones feature a 6.5-inch AMOLED screens and are equipped with triple rear camera units led by 50-megapixel primary cameras. The Galaxy A25 5G is powered by an Exynos 1280 SoC, while the Galaxy A15 5G runs on an unspecified octa-core processor. Both models sport a waterdrop-style display notch that houses the selfie camera. Other key highlights of the Galaxy A25 5G and Galaxy A15 5G include 5,000mAh battery units, up to 8GB of RAM, 25W charging support, side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A25 5G pricing in India starts at Rs. 17,999. However, the company is yet to officially provide pricing details and RAM and storage configurations. 

The company is offering a Rs. 3,000 discount for customers purchasing the Samsung handsets using SBI cards. They are offered in Light Blue, Light Black, Blue and Yellow shades.

The dual-SIM (Nano) Samsung Galaxy A25 5G and Galaxy A15 5G run on Android 13-based One UI 5. Samsung is promising up to five years of security updates and four years of OS upgrades for the new handsets.

The Galaxy A25 5G features a 6.5-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,408 pixels) Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits of peak brightness. The Galaxy A15 5G has a similar-sized display with 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 800 nits. 

The Galaxy A25 5G is powered by an octa-core Exynos 1280 SoC with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. The Galaxy A15 5G, on the other hand, has an unspecified octa-core chipset under the hood, along with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage.

For optics, both models are equipped with a triple rear camera setup. The Galaxy A25 5G’s camera unit includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel tertiary sensor. The Galaxy A15 5G’s camera setup comprises a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 5-megapixel secondary sensor and a 2-megapixel shooter. Both handsets have a 13-megapixel front camera. 

Connectivity options on the Galaxy A25 5G and Galaxy A15 5G include 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. The former has speakers with Dolby Atmos technology. Sensors onboard include accelerometers, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, light sensor, and virtual proximity sensor. Both models come with a fingerprint sensor for authentication. 

The Galaxy A25 5G and Galaxy A15 5G are backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The battery units are said to deliver up to 21 hours of video playback time on a single charge. The Galaxy A25 5G measures 161.0×76.5×8.3mm and weighs 197g. The Galaxy A15 5G measures 160.1×76.8×8.4mm and weighs 200g.

Move over Mean Girls, we have a new Christmas dance in town! A Christmas-themed video recently went viral on the internet and it is a dance-off between a group of girls and a flock of chickens. Dubbed the ‘chicken dance’ by netizens, this video is both entertaining and hilarious and people on social media cannot have enough of it. It is being shared across platforms and so far, we have seen it on TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, and even in WhatsApp group chats. So, where did this video come from, who made it, and why is it going so viral? Let us find out.

First, a brief overview of the video. It is a 28-second long video, made in TikTok’s Duet and Instagram’s Remix style where two videos play simultaneously next to each other. The first video is of a flock of chickens who can be seen grooving to the tune of Feliz Navidad (translation – Merry Christmas) by Jose Feliciano, a popular Christmas song. The second video is of a group of girls who imitate the moves of the chicken step-by-step. The video is hilarious and entertaining and reminds us of what the Christmas spirit is all about. The viral video had us curious, so we went down the rabbit hole to find out where it came from and who were the creators behind this video.

Christmas chicken dance video: Origin, creators, and more

After a bit of research, we found out that the original video came from TikTok by a user with the handle ilgallinaio_special. TikTok is banned in India and we could not investigate further. But the fears of meeting a dead end disappeared once we found an Instagram handle by the same name.

A creator who is named Vamos Gallinaio has 199 posts of chicken dances. The creator has 24.2K followers on Instagram and over 2 million followers on TikTok. He posts videos of his chickens dancing (likely as he picks them up and controls their movement; we never see their feet) to different popular tracks, and even some dialogues while he hands them cute little props.

While we could not confirm his TikTok, it turns out that he has never gone viral on Instagram before this video. This video has 3.4 million views, 137K likes, and more than 1900 comments, and has been shared 140K times. These are massive numbers for a small channel like this. So, we dug a little deeper to understand how it went viral.

There was another half of the puzzle remaining, and it turns out this is where the virality question also gets answered. The three girls featured in the video were also shown as the contributor to this post. As per Instagram, if you are a contributor to a friend’s video, the post will show up in both your and your friend’s profile and will be shared with both of your followers.

The three girls in the post are Sarah McCreanor, also known as Smac (smacmccreanor), Malia Baker (maliabaker), and Kristi Moore Griffith (kmo_18). All three of them are dancers and content creators on social media. Both Baker and Griffith have a follower size similar to gallinaio in the 16-30K range. But McCreanor is also an actress and has featured in multiple TV Series. This is why she commands a massive 459K followers. We believe this was one of the primary reasons this video blew up in the first place. However, the presence of a celebrity was not the sole factor. The unique concept, hilarious execution, and the chicken deserve an equal amount of credit. The combined result was that even the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, could not stop himself from liking the video.

Samsung Electronics Co. has delayed mass production plans at its new chip plant in Taylor, Texas, the Seoul Economic Daily said, potentially dealing another blow to the Biden administration’s ambition to increase domestic semiconductor supplies. te

Mass production at the upcoming $17 billion fab would begin in 2025, the newspaper reported, citing a speech by President Choi Siyoung of Samsung’s foundry business at an industry event in San Francisco. 

Samsung previously said the factory would start production in the second half of 2024 when it announced the investment in 2021. A spokesperson said the company cannot confirm the mass production schedule right now. 

The report followed an earlier decision by Samsung’s bigger rival Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to postpone production at its new Arizona fab to 2025 from next year due to a shortage of experienced construction workers and machine installation technicians.

Any delay at the US sites operated by the world’s two leading contract chipmakers would be a setback to US President Joe Biden’s grand plan to boost chip production on American soil to avoid future supply disruptions like the 2021 shortage that cost companies hundreds of billions in revenue. 

Revisions to TSMC’s and Samsung’s plans would mean their new plants, worth tens of billions of dollars, may only come online after the US presidential election next year.

As a citizen of today, you enjoy several digital systems, be it smartphones, email, voice AI like Alexa, or IoT. If you are part of any digital system, you are vulnerable to a cyberattack. In an era dominated by interconnected systems, the constant threat of cyberattacks, and businesses and individuals increasingly relying on digital platforms, the need for robust defenses against cyber threats has never been more critical.

In 2020, Air India, the country’s flagship airline, fell victim to a cyberattack that compromised the personal data of millions of its customers. The breach affected users registered between August 2011 and February 2021, exposing sensitive information such as names, dates of birth, contact details, passport information, and credit card data.

This breach had severe implications for both the affected individuals and the airline, and is an example of the vulnerability that a common consumer faces in a digitally connected country like India.

Nenad Zaric, CEO and Co-founder of Trickest, a cybersecurity platform that employs ethical hackers, says, “India’s dynamic economy is flourishing, and a rapid digital transformation comes with this growth. However, this transformation brings challenges, particularly an uptick in cyber threats. But India is not just witnessing these threats passively; it’s actively innovating in cybersecurity across various security industries and not only in the private sector.”

White Hat Heroes Save the Day

Unfortunately, the days when a simple antivirus program sufficed to protect against digital threats are gone. Today’s cybersecurity challenges demand sophisticated solutions that can adapt to the evolving tactics of malicious actors.

Enter the white hat heroes.

In this digital battleground, white hat hackers, also known as ethical hackers, have emerged as the unsung heroes of cybersecurity. Unlike their black hat counterparts who exploit vulnerabilities for malicious purposes, white hat hackers use their skills to identify and fix security flaws, working in collaboration with organizations to bolster their defenses.

One notable example of white hat heroism is the case of Tsutomu Shimomura, who became famous after aiding the FBI in capturing high-profile and criminal hacker Kevin Mitnick.

Ethical hacker Ben Sadeghipour explains how a white hat hacker collaborates with an organization: “Companies can work with the ethical hacking community in several ways. The most common and easiest will be to set up a communication channel with hackers by either setting up a bug bounty program or a vulnerability disclosure program (VPD).”

A bug bounty program enables companies to pay hackers for their findings. It has proven successful in attracting top-tier talent to scrutinize software and networks for weaknesses.

“It typically requires more of a lift on the company end to set up due to its nature, validating vulnerabilities, remediating, payment processing, and over-communication with hackers,” he says.

On the other hand, a VDP is more of a “see something, say something” approach.

“If someone stumbles upon a vulnerability in your assets while browsing the Internet, researching, or using your products. This model doesn’t pay hackers but acknowledges their work and creates a channel to receive vulnerabilities,” he adds.

Both methods can be self-hosted by organizations or by leveraging a third-party platform tailored to cover these programs more effectively.

The Role of Innovative Technologies

In tandem with the efforts of ethical hackers, innovative security solutions powered by advanced technologies play a crucial role in fortifying digital defenses. Artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms analyze vast amounts of data to detect anomalies and patterns indicative of potential threats. Behavioral analytics, meanwhile, can identify unusual user activity, helping to thwart insider threats and sophisticated attacks.

“To effectively navigate the complex cybersecurity landscape, it’s essential to categorize solutions into offensive and defensive buckets as their main abstraction. This classification helps understand the proactive and reactive measures within the security domain,” Zaric explains.

Zero Trust Architecture

Innovative technologies enable the implementation of Zero Trust Architecture, where trust is never assumed, and verification is required from everyone, regardless of their location or network access. This model minimizes the risk of unauthorized access and lateral movement within a network.

“While Zero Trust solutions were more focused on only monitoring capabilities, in recent years we see an uprise in being reactive and creating sandboxed environments when managing new threats,” Zaric says.

Biometric Authentication

Traditional passwords are increasingly being augmented or replaced by biometric authentication methods such as fingerprint scanning, facial recognition, and voice authentication. These innovative technologies provide an additional layer of security and reduce the risk of unauthorized access.

“This innovation is now integrated into everyday products as part of Two-Factor or Multi-Factor authentication for critical systems,” he explains.

Endpoint Security Solutions

With the increasing prevalence of remote work and the proliferation of mobile devices, endpoint security becomes crucial. Innovative technologies provide robust endpoint protection, securing devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets against a variety of threats.

“The work inside the companies is done on individual devices of employees, which are called endpoints, so Endpoint Security Solutions are innovating by creating a more comprehensive check of the software used and installed. As one of the main priorities with this software is not to affect the performance of the employees, these started to have almost 0 effect on the devices on which they are installed,” he adds.

Advanced security solutions tap into threat intelligence feeds, aggregating information on known threats and vulnerabilities. This collaborative approach enables organizations to stay informed about emerging threats and bolster their defenses accordingly.

By doing both defensive and offensive work, companies can gain knowledge and understanding of the most advanced threats around them, says Zaric.
