Nothing Phone 3: what we want to see

[ad_1]

The Nothing brand is just a few years old, yet it’s already making a mark on the smartphone world, with distinctive Android phones that look like nothing else on the market.

The Nothing Phone 2 is the latest flagship from the company, but while it impresses from a design perspective, it’s not a home run in every way. So there’s a lot that we want to see changed and improved for the as-yet-unofficial Nothing Phone 3.

New Zealand Commerce Minister Warns Leaders on Being Slow in Crypto Exploration

[ad_1]

New Zealand’s ministry of commerce and consumer affairs have warned the country leaders against keeping a slow approach on cryptocurrencies. In a recent development, minister Andrew Bayly has asked the Australian government to finalise its stance on crypto before it’s too late. This is the time that the crypto sector is just setting its roots in friendly countries and ushering job as well as business opportunities there. In places like the UK, the UAE, the US, South Korea, and India, the Web3 sector is being rapidly adopted.

Bayly, the minister of commerce and consumer affairs in New Zealand has expressed concerns that the country’s ‘wait and see’ approach is snubbing its growth in the sectors of fintech, gaming, blockchain, and more.

In 2021, the Cabinet Legislation Committee had launched a crypto inquiry initiative. Citing findings from which, Bayly is suggesting the government to become more pro-active in its approach towards crypto.

“The cryptocurrency inquiry centres are of the view that New Zealand should take a more proactive and innovation-friendly approach to digital assets and blockchain (including cryptocurrencies). I therefore consider that the Government’s approach to digital assets should support industry development, whilst continuing to consider appropriate policy to manage these risks,” Bayly noted in a published coversheet.

In 2022, data from the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) had said roughly 10 percent of New Zealand citizens, about 324,000 people, reportedly owned crypto assets. The stats showing how many people in New Zealand hold cryptocurrency has not officially been updated by the country since December 2022, it seems.

The country has not set in place any legal rules to oversee or regulate the crypto sector either. Not only does this keep the country’s crypto sector open for exploitation by miscreants, but also leaves the sector open to facilitate unlawful activities like money laundering and terror financing.

“The Committee launched the Scams Inquiry in 2022 following several high profile cases of digital and online scams which led to victims losing millions of dollars. The Committee was concerned about the impact these scams have on victims’ lives and wanted to understand how banking processes in New Zealand could better protect consumers,” Bayly’s coversheet added.

Overall, the minister has urged the government of New Zealand to take a pro-active approach towards exploring digital assets and blockchain. In addition, the country has also been advised to facilitate more public debate and to prompt further consideration and work by the government to ensure New Zealand is well placed to adapt to the opportunities, challenges, and risks associated with digital assets.

OpenAI Unveils GPT-4 Turbo With Vision Capabilities in API and ChatGPT
OpenAI Unveils GPT-4 Turbo With Vision Capabilities in API and ChatGPT

[ad_1]

OpenAI announced a major improvement to its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model GPT-4 Turbo on Tuesday. The AI model now comes with computer vision capabilities, allowing it to process and analyse multimedia inputs. It can answer questions about an image, video, and more. The company also highlighted several AI tools which are powered by GPT-4 Turbo with Vision including the AI coding assistant Devin and Healthify’s Snap feature. Last week, the AI firm introduced a new feature that would allow users to edit DALL-E 3 generated images within ChatGPT.

The announcement was made by the official account of OpenAI Developers, which said in an X (formerly known as Twitter) post, “GPT-4 Turbo with Vision is now generally available in the API. Vision requests can now also use JSON mode and function calling.” Later, the X account of OpenAI also revealed that the feature is now available in API and it is being rolled out in ChatGPT.

GPT-4 Turbo with Vision is essentially the GPT-4 foundation model with the higher token outputs introduced with the Turbo model, and it now comes with improved computer vision to analyse multimedia files. The vision capabilities can be used in a variety of methods. The end user, for instance, can use this capability by uploading an image of the Taj Mahal on ChatGPT, and asking it to explain what material the building is made up of. Developers can take this a step ahead and fine-tune the capability in their tools for specific purposes.

OpenAI highlighted some of these use cases in the post. Cognition AI’s Devin chatbot, which is an AI-powered coding assistant, uses GPT-4 Turbo with Vision to see the complex coding tasks and its sandbox environment to create programmes.

Similarly, the Indian calorie tracking and nutrition feedback platform Healthify has a feature called Snap where users can click a picture of a food item or a cuisine, and the platform reveals the possible calories in it. With GPT-4 Turbo with Vision’s capabilities, it now also recommends what the user should do to burn the extra calories or ways to reduce calories in the meal.

Notably, this AI model has a context window of 1,28,000 tokens and its training data runs up to December 2023.

iPadOS 17.5 Beta Includes Firmware for Unreleased OLED iPad Pro Models, New Apple Pencil: Report
iPadOS 17.5 Beta Includes Firmware for Unreleased OLED iPad Pro Models, New Apple Pencil: Report

[ad_1]

Apple is expected to launch new iPad Pro models equipped with OLED screens for the first time, according to recent reports. While the Cupertino company is yet to announce any plans for an upgrade to its Pro models that were introduced nearly a year and a half ago, the latest iPadOS 17.5 developer beta reportedly contains firmware that suggests the company’s upcoming iPad Pro models will feature a new display technology, while a new Apple Pencil model could also be on the way.

9to5Mac spotted references to a few unidentified tablet models in the code for the recently released iPadOS 17.5 developer beta. The firmware for four of these devices — identified as iPad16,3; iPad16,4; iPad16,5; and iPad16,6 — suggests that they will sport OLED screens, while also revealing some details of the suppliers for these models, according to the publication.

The clues to these devices in the latest iPadOS 17.5 beta update suggest that the launch of new iPad Pro models and a new Apple Pencil is imminent. Apple is yet to announce a new launch event, but a recent report suggests that the company is planning to introduce new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in at the start of May, after the company missed the previously tipped March-end launch window.

Two of the four unreleased models reportedly refer to the successors to the 11-inch iPad Pro (2022) and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2022) models with Wi-Fi connectivity, while the other two could arrive as their cellular variants. The report also states that the firmware for these models found on iPadOS 17.5 beta suggests that LG and Samsung will manufacture the OLED panels for smaller variant, while only LG will supply panels for the 12.9-inch model.

iPadOS 17.5 beta also includes code that points to three different Apple Pencil gestures — squeeze, long squeeze, and double squeeze. This suggests that a new Apple Pencil model could soon be launched by the firm, the first to be offer pressure sensors on its sides.

Previous reports have also suggested that the company’s next generation Apple Pencil will also let owners track the device via the company’s Find My network, similar to the second generation AirPods Pro. We can expect to hear more about the company’s plans in the coming days or weeks, ahead of the expected debut of these devices.

Helldivers celebrate victory by impaling banner into a dead bug
What is the Helldivers 2 Medal cap?

[ad_1]

What’s new in Helldivers 2?

A Super Earth citizen laments the death of his family

Unfortunately, the Automatons have returned, and are launching assaults on a host of new planets. Not only that, but new mission types are available, including a defense level, where players can use giant steel doors to box in enemies.

The current Helldivers 2 Medal cap will stop you from earning more Medals once you reach it. This can be frustrating, especially if you don’t know what the cap is, and sign in to find you’ve missed some of the rewards from Major Orders.

Since it launched earlier this year, Helldivers 2 has continued to go from strength to strength and has even added two major updates in the form of new Warbonds. You’ll need Medals to work through each one, as they’re essentially Battle Passes that offer rewards in exchange for earned currency.

Google Releases Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Model in Public Preview, Adds New Features
Google Releases Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Model in Public Preview, Adds New Features

[ad_1]

Google introduced its artificial intelligence (AI) model with the largest context window, Gemini 1.5 Pro in public preview on Tuesday. The tech giant first announced the AI model in February, and for the next two months, it was available in Google AI Studio for developers to try out. Now, it is available to users to try out. Enthusiasts can also create or access API keys to build using the large language model (LLM). In opening it to the public, the tech giant has also included multiple new capabilities in Gemini 1.5 Pro.

The AI model was introduced in public preview during the company’s annual Google Cloud Next event. The standard version of Gemini 1.5 Pro comes with a 1,28,000 token context window. In comparison, Gemini 1.0 had a context window of 32,000 tokens. There’s a special variant of the model as well which comes with a massive context window of one million tokens. Tokens are the primary units of data, which can be understood as syllables, words, or subsections of words. The context window is the amount of information an AI model can access, based on the keywords in the prompt, to find relevant information.

To put it into context, a context window of one million tokens could be about 7,00,000 words, which is similar to ten average-sized books with 300 pages. This kind of information spread enables the AI to understand the wider context and respond with an answer that can be more relevant to the user. Further, this capability is especially useful when a user wants the AI to analyse a large file to find out a particular piece of information.

X (formerly known as Twitter) user Rowan Cheung was able to get early access to the Gemini AI model and posted about his findings from using it. In a post, he said, “I uploaded the entire NBA dunk contest from last night and asked which dunk had the highest score. Gemini 1.5 was incredibly able to find the specific perfect 50 dunk and details from just its long context video understanding!”

The AI model comes with several new features as well. Google has added native audio or speech support, and Gemini 1.5 Pro can understand verbal prompts. Alongside, a File API for handling files, system instructions, and JSON mode have also been added for developers to have better control over the model. It also comes with its multimodal capability and can analyse images and videos. The AI model is currently available in more than 180 countries including India.

US Judge Refuses to Dismiss Lawsuit Accusing Elon Musk
Tesla Chief Elon Musk Said to Meet PM Modi in April, Announce India Investment Plans

[ad_1]

Tesla chief Elon Musk will visit India this month to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is expected to make an announcement on plans to invest and open a new factory in the country, two sources with direct knowledge said.

The billionaire will meet PM Modi in the week of April 22 in New Delhi, and will separately make an announcement about his India plans, said the two sources, who declined to be named as the trip details are confidential.

The Tesla CEO will be accompanied by other executives during his visit, said the first source.

Reuters is first to report details of Musk’s planned India visit. PM Modi’s office and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment. Musk’s final India trip agenda could still change.

Musk and PM Modi last met in New York in June, and Tesla for months lobbied India to lower import taxes on electric vehicles while it weighed up a factory there. India last month unveiled a new EV policy lowering import taxes to 15 percent from 100 percent on some models if a manufacturer invests at least $500 million (roughly Rs. 4,168 crore) and sets up a factory too.

Reuters has previously reported that Tesla officials are expected to visit India this month to look at sites for a manufacturing plant that would require an investment of about $2 billion (roughly Rs. 16,674 crore).

Tesla has also begun production of right-hand drive cars at its German plant for export to India later this year, sources have said.

Musk said this week on X that “India should have electric cars like every other country has electric cars. It’s a natural progression to provide Tesla electric vehicles in India”.

Tesla’s push into India comes as slowing EV demand in its main US and Chinese markets coincides with intensifying competition from Chinese automakers. Tesla reported a drop in first-quarter deliveries that missed analyst estimates.

India’s EV market is small but growing and dominated by local carmaker Tata Motors. EVs made up just 2 percent of total car sales in 2023. The government is targeting 30 percent by 2030.
