Leica Leitz Phone 3 was launched on Thursday as the successor to the Leica Leitz Phone 2, which was unveiled in November 2022. The latest handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC but retains other key features of the preceding phone which was equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, a 47.2-megapixel primary rear camera and a 5,000mAh battery. The design of the Leitz Phone 3 is said to be inspired by the look of Leica cameras and the textured finish is claimed to offer users a better grip.

The Leica Leitz Phone 3 is offered in a single black colourway. The price of the handset has not yet been revealed but it will be available for purchase exclusively in Japan from April 19, the company said in a press statement. As per the promotional images on the Leica website, the advertised lens cap can be bought with an external phone cover which is sold as part of a bundle or as additional accessories.

Leica Leitz Phone 3 specifications, features

The Leica Leitz Phone 3 sports a 6.6-inch WUXGA+ (2,730 x 1,260 pixels) Pro IGZO OLED display. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. The storage can be expanded to up to 1TB via a microSDXC card. The phone runs on Android 14 with a custom user interface on top.

For optics, the Leica Leitz Phone 3 features a dual rear camera unit which includes a 47.2-megapixel 1-inch CMOS sensor with 6x digital zoom and a wide-angle lens alongside a 1.9-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera, on the other hand, is equipped with a 12.6-megapixel sensor with 8x digital zoom. The camera system is accompanied by the Leitz Looks software feature which is claimed to help the Leica phone simulate the looks of popular Leica M-Lenses like the Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50, Summilux-M 1:1.4/28 and Summilux-M 1:1.4/35.

Like the preceding model, the Leica Leitz Phone 3 also packs a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged via a USB Type-C port. The phone also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, Mobile Pay and NFC connectivity. It has a 3.5mm audio jack and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. For security, it is equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The handset measures 77mm x 161mm x 9.3mm in size and weighs 209g.

iOS 18 is expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2024 on June 10, months before Apple rolls out its next major software update to eligible iPhone models. While the company is yet to offer any details related to iOS 18, analysis of backend code on Apple’s servers has revealed that the company could be working on two new AI features that could arrive with the upcoming update. These include an AI-powered ‘browsing assistant’ for Safari that could bring Apple’s browser on par with competing applications.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) developer Nicolás Álvarez (@nicolas09F9) states that he discovered references to two features on Apple’s backend code. The first one — Safari browsing assistant — that sounds similar to generative AI assistants that are capable of analysing and summarising web pages, like Copilot on Microsoft Edge, or Arc Browser.

The second feature spotted by the developer is called Encrypted visual search, which is already a feature offered by Spotlight, as the developer points out. It is currently unclear whether iOS 18 will include a more advanced (and secure) version of the Visual Look Up feature that can automatically identify plants, pet breeds, and landmarks in Camera Roll images.

Álvarez explains that both these features will use an Oblivious HTTP gateway (a privacy protocol for forwarding encrypted HTTP messages) that will stop the company from identifying multiple requests as arriving from the same IP address. The developer previously speculated that Apple would use its iCloud Private Relay feature, which requires a monthly subscription to iCloud+ or Apple One.

Apple is yet to reveal details of these purported AI features expected to arrive on its upcoming operating system update for eligible iPhone models. The company is expected to unveiled iOS 18 alongside macOS 15 and other operating system updates for various Apple products at WWDC 2024, which begins on June 10, and we can expect to learn more about these AI features during the WWDC keynote event in a couple of months.

Nokia 6310 (2024), Nokia 5310 (2024), and Nokia 230 (2024) have been launched as the latest feature phones by HMD. The new phones come as a refresh to old classic Nokia phones and run on the S30+ operating system with the bar form factor. They have a 2.8-inch QVGA display and are equipped with the Unisoc 6531F SoCs. The Nokia 6310, Nokia 5310, and Nokia 230 wireless FM streaming support and has an MP3 player. The new feature phones are backed by a 1,450mAh battery that is said to deliver up to 27 days of standby time with a single charge.

HMD has not announced the pricing and availability details of the Nokia 6310 (2024), Nokia 5310 (2024), and Nokia 230 (2024). All three phones are currently listed on its website. The Nokia 230 and Nokia 5310 are listed in Black and White colour options, whereas the Nokia 6310 is offered in Black and Red colours.

The refreshed Nokia 6310, Nokia 5310, and Nokia 230 come with dual-SIM support and run on the Series 30+ operating system. The new feature phones sport a 2.8-inch QVGA display and are powered by a Unisoc 6531F SoC alongside 8MB RAM and 16MB internal storage. The inbuilt storage can be expanded up to 32GB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

Nokia 6310, Nokia 5310 and Nokia 230 sport FM radio with wired and wireless modes and an MP3 player. For connectivity, the phones get Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port. There is also a 0.3-megapixel camera sensor on the rear of the Nokia 6310 and Nokia 5310. The Nokia 230, in contrast, comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera alongside LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera with LED flash.

Nokia has packed a 1,450mAh battery on all three phones that is claimed to deliver up to 27 days of standby time. All three models support 2G connectivity.

Samsung updated its native artificial intelligence (AI) suite of features for its smartphones, Galaxy AI, with support for new languages and dialects. The update has added three new languages and three dialects to the AI tool. The additions are part of the South Korean tech giant’s Spring 2024 update. The company has also revealed its plans to add four more languages and two more dialects later this year. Once those languages are added, it will bring the total number of supported languages to 20.

The announcement was made by Samsung US newsroom’s post. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Committed to democratizing mobile AI for all, Galaxy AI’s language expansion this year will allow even more Galaxy users to communicate beyond language barriers on a scale that is completely unique to Samsung. We will continue to innovate our technology and pioneer premium mobile AI experiences so that even more users are equipped with the right tools to unleash their unlimited potential.”

The three new languages which are being added to Galaxy AI are Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian. Alongside Australian English, Cantonese, and Canadian French dialects are also being added. Further, later this year, Samsung is planning to add four more languages including Romanian, Turkish, Dutch and, Swedish. Two more dialects — traditional Chinese and European Portuguese — will also be added.

Language support is important for several features in Galaxy AI. For instance, Live Translate which produces two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls, requires the AI to understand the language and dialect in order to translate them. Similarly, the Interpreter feature can instantly translate live conversations through a split-screen view so that two people standing opposite each other can see each other’s translation. This also requires language support for the AI to analyse speech.

Galaxy AI was introduced by the tech giant with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. However, recently, it was expanded to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series through the One UI 6.1 update.

Moto G64 5G is confirmed to go official in India on April 16. Ahead of the scheduled launch, Motorola has listed the handset on its official website revealing all its specifications. The Moto G64 5G is confirmed to be available in three colour options and two RAM and storage configurations. It is listed with a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB storage. The Moto G64 5G carries a 6,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging support.

Through a listing on its India website, Motorola has disclosed the full specifications of the Moto G64 5G. It is shown in Ice Lilac, Mint Green, and Pearl Blue colour options and 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB storage options. It is confirmed to be powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC.

The Moto G64 5G features Android 14-based My UX. It is confirmed to receive Android 15  and three years of security updates. It features a 6.5-inch full-HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate. It has a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel primary rear sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS) support alongside an 8-megapixel macro shooter. The front camera is a 16-megapixel sensor.

As per the listing, the Moto G64 5G has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and supports face unlock feature. Connectivity options available on the phone include FM radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidu, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. It comes in an IP52-rated water-repellent build and features dual stereo speakers enhanced by Dolby Atmos technology. Sensors onboard include an accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, SAR sensor, and sensor hub.

Motorola has packed a 6,000mAh battery on the Moto G64 5G with support for 30W TurboPower fast charging. It measures 161.56×73.82×8.89mm and weighs 192 grams.

Samsung Launches Impulse, an AI-powered App to Assist People With Speech Disorders

Samsung launched a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile application that can play an assistive role for those who suffer from speech disorders. The app, dubbed Impulse, is compatible with Android smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series. The app uses a technique known as rhythm therapy to help people find their speech rhythm and improve fluency. The Impulse app uses AI capabilities for natural language processing, to break down words into syllables, and to convert them into vibrations.

The announcement was made by Samsung Espana newsroom’s post, which stated, “Samsung Electronics Iberia and Cheil today announced the launch of Impulse, an application based on Artificial Intelligence to improve the daily lives of people with speech disorders, such as stuttering.” The app was developed in collaboration with the Speechcare & Stuttering Center to improve speech fluency.

Impulse essentially works through the Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches. The app uses a Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based algorithm to analyse and convert words into rhythmic vibrations. These vibrations are felt by the user on their wrist via the smartwatch. The rhythm assists the user in understanding the tempo of each phoneme or word, depending on the type of speech disorder they have. Samsung says this technique can help them avoid blocks in diction and facilitate fluency in speech.

Samsung reveals that the app has more than 250 rhythm and tone exercises designed to increase the difficulty as the user progresses in speech control. The progressive difficulty setting comes with four modes and each mode has three levels of exercises to practice words or phrases.

First mode is ‘Boost your voice’. It can be activated with a single touch after configuration. Users can choose the vibration pattern they want and once selected, it can be used for regular usage. When oral blockage occurs, it is activated. The second mode is ‘Boost your rhythm’, which helps in practising syllables. After the end of a session, the app also shows a performance report that can be shared with a speech therapist.

The third mode is ‘Boost your tone’ which helps the user practise the intonation of the phrases. Finally, the fourth mode is ‘Boost your speech’ which lets the user practise their own texts, written directly in the application or by uploading a file with the narration. Here, the AI analyses the text to create a vibration pattern.

Currently, the app is only available in the Google Play Store in Spain for smartphones running Android 10 and later. It is not known if Samsung will expand the app in other regions as well.
