Microsoft has announced its plans to revamp its video conferencing platform–Teams Room on Windows consoles and front-of-room displays. The new look will be added to the platform by the end of this quarter, Microsoft Teams Room on Windows application running version 4.16. The company plans to make Teams Rooms easier to use by aligning key elements of the user interface across the Windows and Android ecosystems.
“To make Teams Rooms even easier to use, we’re aligning key elements of the user interface across the Windows and Android ecosystems,” Microsoft said in a blog post.
The upcoming update will let users witness the “vivid new ambient screens” along with a re-designed calendar on consoles and front-of-room displays.

Additionally, Microsoft Teams users will also get improved visual cues throughout the experience that will make it easier and more intuitive to interact with the console.
On the calendar, users will be able to scroll down to see the schedule for the entire day.
The update will also come with improved buttons on the console which will allow users to access the frequently used features, including a button for ‘Meet’ to start a new meeting from the room, a button for ‘Call’ which will allow users to make a call to a phone number or add a person from the directory, and more.
Here’s a detailed list of the upgradation which Microsoft Teams have received with the update:

  • Meet: Start a new meeting from the room
  • Call: Make a call to a phone number or add a person from directory
  • Share: Share local HDMI content
  • Join via ID: Enables this Teams Room to join a Teams meeting using the meeting ID, with Direct Guest Join interoperability functionality coming later this year
  • More: Opens the overflow menu

“For enhanced customisation, your organisation will have a wider range of ambient screens to choose from than before, with five exciting new themes added to the eight themes currently available,” the company said.
“Users will be able to customise the Front Row view, including visibility of the meeting chat, and choose which meeting component is displayed on the left and right panel,” it added.
