Apple has released the macOS Ventura 13.2 update along with the iOS 16.3 and WatchOS 9.3 update. Released in October last year, this is the second major update of the OS.
The latest macOS update is free to download and all eligible Macs can download the update by going to System Settings> Software Update section. The latest update brings a new feature called Security Keys for the Apple ID. The feature enables physical two-factor authentication which offers enhanced protection against phishing and unauthorised account access.
Along with this, the macOS Venture 13.2 update also fixes a bug with the Freeform app.

This update introduces Security Keys for Apple ID and includes other enhancements and bug fixes for your Mac.
– Security Keys for Apple ID allow users to strengthen the security of their account by requiring a physical security key to sign in
– Fixes an issue in Freeform where some drawing strokes created with Apple Pencil or your finger may not appear on shared boards
– Fixes an issue where VoiceOver may stop offering audio feedback while you are typing
Some features may not be available for all regions, or on all Apple devices.
Apple launched new MacBook Pro models in India
Recently, Apple launched new Apple MacBook Pro models in India. Apple launched the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max silicon processors. The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at Rs 1,99,900, while the price of the 16-inch variant with M2 Pro processor starts at Rs 2,49,900. The new MacBook Pro supports Wi-Fi 6E, which is up to twice as fast as the previous generation, as well as advanced HDMI, which supports 8K displays for the first time.

What are security keys?
Security keys are physical devices that are used as a form of two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra layer of security when accessing online accounts or services. They work by requiring the user to physically insert the key into their device, or by using near-field communication (NFC) technology to connect wirelessly to a device, in order to confirm their identity.
How are security keys helpful?
Security keys are particularly useful in protecting against phishing attacks, which are common tactics used by attackers to steal login credentials. Phishing attacks often involve tricking users into entering their login information on a fake website, which is then used to gain unauthorised access to the user’s accounts. Security keys help to protect against this by requiring the user to physically confirm their identity before logging in, which makes it much more difficult for attackers to steal login credentials.
Security keys also provide an additional layer of security compared to other forms of 2FA, such as one-time passwords (OTPs) sent via text message or email. This is because security keys are not susceptible to the same types of attacks that can compromise OTPs, such as SIM swapping or phishing attacks that target the user’s email or text messages.
Furthermore, security keys use a public key infrastructure (PKI) system, which is a method of securely transmitting data over the internet using a pair of public and private keys. The public key is used to encrypt data, while the private key is used to decrypt it. This means that even if an attacker intercepts the data being transmitted, they will not be able to decrypt it without the private key.
Should you get one?
As we mentioned, they add a layer of security. If you are worried about your account/data being hacked, a security key is a useful addition. Brands like Yubico, Feitian, and others have many options ranging between Rs 3,000 to Rs 7,500.

Apple has rolled out the third major software update for the Apple Watch. The company has released the watchOS 9.3 update. Introduced in September last year, WatchOS 9 received the WatchOS 9.2 update last month.
How to download and install watchOS 9.3 update
Apple Watch users can download the WatchOS 9.3 update for free via the Apple Watch app on iPhone. In order to download the update, users need to go to General> Software Update. Users must keep in mind that to install the new software update, they need at least 50% battery. The Apple Watch must be connected to the charger and should be kept within range of the iPhone.
The latest watchOS 9.3 update brings some new features and fixes some bugs. The update is available for Apple Watch Series 4 and above.
Along with the watchOS 9.3 update, the company has also rolled out an iOS 16.3 update for iPhones. The latest update brings new features to iPhones such as Security Keys for Apple ID, Support for HomePod (2nd-gen) and more.
Recently, Apple expanded its smart speaker range with the launch of its 2nd generation HomePod speaker. The HomePod (2nd-gen) is priced at Rs 32,900 and is available in white and midnight colour options. The smart speaker is powered by the S7 chip and features a custom-engineered high-excursion woofer, built-in bass-EQ mic and five tweeters around the base. Apple also claims that it has a powerful motor that drives the diaphragm 20mm.
The new HomePod also offers several smart features. There’s Sound Recognition, through which the HomePod can listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and send a notification directly to the user’s iPhone if a sound is identified.

Samsung is all set to launch its Galaxy S23 series of smartphones next week. The company has scheduled the Galaxy Unpacked event for February 1, where it will launch its flagship Galaxy S23 series of smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S23 series consists of three smartphones — Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Now, days ahead of the launch a new leak has surfaced online revealing the hero colours and some other details about the upcoming Samsung smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series colour options
Popular tipster Evan Blass has shared some images of the upcoming Samsung smartphones showing their hero colours. As per the leaked images, the most expensive Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will come in Botanic Green colour, while the Samsung Galaxy S23+ will come in Misty Lilac and Galaxy S23 will feature a Cotton Flower colour variant. The leak further suggests that all three smartphones will come in Phantom Black colour as well.

The tipster also revealed that all three Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphones will offer up to 1750 nits of brightness. Same as earlier reports this leak also reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will sport a 200MP main camera. This means that this time the company is replacing the 108MP camera of the Galaxy S22 Ultra with the 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor. Samsung is also rumoured to swap the ultra-wide 12MP sensor on the smartphone. This time the company is said to include the Sony IMX654 sensor. Along with this, the company may also be replacing the 12MP sensor on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+.
Samsung Galaxy S23 series likely specs
A recent online report revealed the likely details about the upcoming Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphones. As per a report by galaxyclub, the Samsung Galaxy S23+ could pack a 4,700mAh battery, which is about 100mAh bigger than the one in the Galaxy S22+. The top-of-the-line Galaxy S23 Ultra, however, is said to pack a 5000mAh battery, which is identical to what is found in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The report further adds that the Galaxy S23 may get an improved 12MP front camera sensor but the telephoto camera is reported to carry the same 10MP sensor and 3x optical zoom capability. It is also claimed that the sensor in the ultra-wide angle camera won’t change much. The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are said to feature the same 12MP ultra-wide angle camera as it was in their predecessors. The report further notes there is no clarity on whether the Galaxy S23 Ultra will get the same 12MP sensor as its siblings or not.

Apple’s focus on health
Over the last few years — more so since the launch of the Apple Watch — Apple has been working extensively in the field of health. The company is working with Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health, the American Heart Association, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins University, to conduct health studies and advance discovery with the ResearchKit and CareKit platforms.
With the Apple Watch, the company has been introducing new health and fitness features for users. Apple recently launched its temperature sensing capability with the retrospective ovulation estimates feature, adding to the many consumer health tools available on Apple Watch and iPhone including the ECG app, irregular rhythm notifications, cycle tracking and hearing health features.
Apple has also made available a number of tools and core technologies to all developers to help them create apps, including more than 250,000 software development building blocks called APIs. With the HealthKit API, Apple makes it possible for third-party developers to develop health and fitness apps that take advantage of the sensors on the iPhone and Apple Watch and are compatible with the Health app.

Over the next few months, Meta will gradually expand end-to-end encryption (E2EE) to all Messenger users to ensure a high level of security across the board.

“Gradually” is the keyword here as Meta states it will randomly choose (opens in new tab) which chats get E2EE and which ones don’t. When chosen, everyone in a selected chat will be notified if their app now has that extra layer of protection. The reasoning behind the random selection process is to ease both users and the company’s own infrastructure so as to not overwhelm either of them. Plus, Meta will be testing whether or not E2EE will be a default setting for Messenger during this period. Researchers have uncovered a huge network of fake apps running fake ads, mainly on iOS devices.
