Following the launch of last year’s Nothing Phone (1) in the UK, it appears that the brand has plans to launch a follow-up in 2023 based on comments from CEO and co-founder Carl Pei.
The Nothing Phone (1) isn’t the best phone on the market right now, but its bold aesthetics and budget-friendly price – with a performance that’s definitely value for money – have made it a pretty popular handset in the regions where it’s available. So it’s no surprise that the brand would want to launch a follow-up.
In an interview with Inverse, Nothing CEO Carl Pei admitted that his company has big plans for its next “more premium” smartphone: the Phone (2). While Pei is reportedly hesitant to give too many details away he did reveal the two key areas that Nothings want to focus on with its next smartphone.
The first is software. We don't know exactly what form the upgrades will take, but we hope the user interface will see some refinements. In our review, we found the Android-based Nothing OS to be clean, but it’s not the most stable build of Android out there and it lacks user-friendly features like one-handed mode.
Another big difference is that the Phone (2) is designed with a US audience in mind. The Nothing phone (1) originally snubbed the US at launch and has only recently arrived there via an odd beta program. It appears that this program is being used to help Nothing work out what US consumers want from a smartphone, but also to work with carriers to determine the certifications and features its devices need in order to function properly on US networks.
That said we don’t expect everything will be different from the Phone (1). It seems likely that the Phone (2) will continue to use the original’s iconic Glyph interface, and offering a competitive price that offers users solid value for money is very probable too. Though to know exactly how much the Phone (2) costs, and the specs it packs, we’ll likely have to wait for a proper announcement later in the year.
Until then we’ll have to make do with a few other tech reveals, including the announcements made at Samsung Unpacked 2023 on February 1 (that’s tomorrow at the time of writing). It seems very likely that Unpacked 2023 will be the launch event for the Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone (and its upgraded Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra models). Car manufacturer Porsche has ceased minting a line of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), digital art with an assigned “owner” in its metadata after just two days following a lack of interest and backlash from crypto enthusiasts, but threat actors are picking up the slack.
Reports from BleepingComputer (opens in new tab) claim there were delays in the issuing of the initial NFTs on January 23, which included a replica of the Porsche 911 priced at 0.911 Etherium (ETH). At the time of writing, this is around $1,500.
The delay made “the community” angry enough, but it also allowed for a secondhand market to emerge on NFT marketplace OpenSea, where the NFTs were devalued immediately, upsetting anyone still, for some reason, seeing NFTs as stable and worthwhile investments.
Scammers flock to an NFT fad
While any kind of community project might have noble intentions, it was, in Porsche’s case, its commitment to this feedback loop that has now created additional problems for the company’s NFT project, and no doubt the Porsche brand overall.
With scarcity of the NFTs rising after the mint’s discontinuation, Porsche itself has warned (opens in new tab) of fraudulent phishing sites, claiming to offer the NFT collection, being shared via direct messages on Twitter.
At its worst, BleepingComputer found a (as of January 30, now defunct) Twitter account with over 11,000 followers impersonating Porsche and recreating its website as part of a phishing campaign.
The real site states that the mint is closed and refers users to OpenSea. However, the fake one allowed users to link their cryptocurrency wallets, upon which the site would try to embezzle their funds.
Users can rest easy knowing that one phishing site has stopped functioning, but more are likely to spring up in their wake, and it’s unknown as to when the controversy will die down
As a result, given that the official word from Porsche is that it doesn’t have any further NFT mints in the pipeline, enthusiasts are advised to stay well away from uncorroborated claims regarding Porsche’s Web3 activity
Marshall is a brand synonymous with road-worthy guitar amps, but this new portable Bluetooth speaker seems rugged enough to stand up to a world tour with Slash.
The Middleton certainly looks the part, featuring the company’s script logo on a black plastic housing. Made from 55% post-consumer recycled plastic, the casing has a IP67 rating, meaning it offers complete protection from dust as well as being able to stand up to being submerged in 1m water for at least 30 minutes.
The Middleton sits between Marshall’s recently released Stockwell 2 and Emberton 2, and boasts a multi-directional quad-speaker set-up to take on the best Bluetooth speakers when it comes to audio power from a compact body.
As with the Marshall Emberton 2, this four-speaker array allows the device to utilize Marshall’s bespoke ‘True Stereophonic’ system, which the company claims creates a more immersive 360-degree sound stage than a standard stereo setup.
There’s a hefty maximum output of 87db, which sounds like it would be enough to get Lemmy’s approval from beyond the grave, but if that isn’t enough, you can use the device’s multi-speaker Stack Mode and pair it up with other Middletons for even more power.
Unlike the Emberton 2, there are physical bass and treble controls on the top of the speaker, while EQ can also be adjusted via Marshall’s dedicated app for Apple and Android devices.
The Middleton comes with a claimed battery life in excess of 20 hours playtime, with a full charge taking 4.5 hours to bring the juice back up to 100%. Usefully, the battery also acts as a power bank, allowing you to charge your mobile devices on the move.

Analysis: Will the Marshall rock hard enough to justify its price?
With its lengthy battery, cool looks and balanced sound, we were impressed with the performance of Marshall’s updated Emberton 2 speaker when it arrived late last year, but questioned its elevated price tag.
The Middleton brings bigger output, IP67 waterproofing and some welcome EQ controls, but there’s still some notable features missing we’d expect at this price.
Chief of these (for some) is the lack of support for smart assistants, with no built-in means of using the likes of Alexa or Google Assistant, which may make the Middleton a hard sell when lined up against others on our best waterproof speakers list, including the cheaper Sonos Roam.
But audio is the most important thing, and if it sounds right, we’ll forgive the lack of tiny rock fairy to talk to.
Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) has been improved for Linux users, who will now be able to isolate their devices from their network.
A Microsoft company blog (opens in new tab) post explained how the update is designed to prevent attackers from installing malware or otherwise gaining access to Linux systems, for data exfiltration and lateral movement for example.
It works in the same way as it would for Windows users, by disconnecting from the network but remaining connected to the MDE network.
Linux Defender for Endpoint
The company explained that, to use MDE for Linux, users should consider using a split-tunnelling VPN. This will allow it and its cloud-based protection to remain active, otherwise, an isolated device will only be able to access certain web destinations. It says:
“Devices that are behind a full VPN tunnel won’t be able to reach the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint cloud service after the device is isolated.”
The post also goes on to discuss the Linux distros that are compatible with the additional capabilities, including Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or higher, and Fedora 33 or higher. A full list of system requirements can be found on the company’s website (opens in new tab).
There are two ways for users to isolate their device: the simplest way is to navigate to the Microsoft 365 Defender portal and select ‘Isolate Device’ on the device page. There’s also a set of API instructions for isolating a device (opens in new tab) and releasing a device from isolation (opens in new tab).
Microsoft has continued to tweak its endpoint protection for Linux devices since it became available for Linux users in June 2020, following a five-month period of public preview. The company has not disclosed any information regarding the general availability of MDE isolation for Linux distros, but is keen to hear users’ experiences as it continues to develop the tool.
As late as September 2022, a bug in Meta’s centralized account management system allowed threat actors to remove 2FA protections for Facebook accounts simply by knowing the phone number attached to an account.
According to a Medium post (opens in new tab), (via Techcrunch (opens in new tab)), security researcher Gtm Mänôz found that, from the Meta Accounts Center (opens in new tab) account management system designed to link Facebook and Instagram accounts, an attacker could enter a victim’s phone number, link the number to their own Facebook account, and then brute force the 2FA SMS code for the victim’s account, thanks to there being no set upper limit for code entry attempts.
Following a successful attempt, victims would have their 2FA disabled, leaving their accounts only secured by a password, which, following a phishing or social engineering attack, could easily be retrieved by a dedicated threat actor.
In his Medium post, Mänôz claimed to have found the bug in preparation for BountyCon, a security researcher conference co-hosted by Meta and Google, simply by prodding “a new looking UI” within Meta Accounts Center.
He also claimed that, because the endpoints that verify e-mail addresses and phone numbers across Instagram and Facebook accounts were the same, verification for contact points that had already been attached to accounts could be bypassed, making the bug possible.
Though it’s unknown just how long the bug was active within the Facebook portion of Meta Account Center’s 2FA system, a fix appeared after just over a month, with Mänôz submitting a bug report to Meta on September 14, and a fix being confirmed to him on October 17.
Meta itself mentioned the bug in the 2022 recap of its Bug Bounty Program (opens in new tab), noting that Mänôz was awarded $27,200 for his efforts.
Looking ahead, 2023 looks set to be a huge year for new PS5 games. PlayStation fans have plenty to be excited about, and that’s not even counting the release of PS VR2 later this year.

New PS5 games 2023: this year’s most anticipated releases
Well, Skull and Bones has been delayed yet again. It had seemed within reach, before a press release was published by Ubisoft cancelled a slate of games, while delaying others.
Skull and Bones has already been delayed a number of times but the latest delay has pushed the game’s release date into “early 2023-24,” according to Ubisoft (opens in new tab), meaning we won’t get our hands on it for a few months yet.
The good news is that the developer has revealed even more on the game via a 30-minute deep dive (which you can watch below). We finally have a good idea as to what Skull and Bones will be like at launch. Now it’s just the question of when it’ll arrive.
While we wait for more info on a release date for Skull and Bones, you’ll find a collection of everything we know about it so far, right here on this page. Skull and Bones has been delayed for a sixth time, with the pirate adventure now set to release sometime in “early 2023-24”.
After a multitude of delays, Skull and Bones finally received a release date of March 9, 2023, back in late 2022. However, in a press release (opens in new tab) in January 2023, Ubisoft explained that following the “lower-than-expected performance of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023”, the company has rereviewed its targets and strategy for the remainder of the fiscal year. As a result, Skull and Bones has been delayed again, while three unannounced Ubisoft projects have also been scrapped.
“We have decided to postpone its release in order to have more time to showcase a much more polished and balanced experience and to build awareness,” Ubisoft wrote in the press release.
Skull and Bones will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. When the game was first announced was announced it was only confirmed to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Though, back then, it was due for release in 2018. After many delays, and the launch of the new generation of consoles, Skull and Bones has now dropped PS4 and Xbox One. It’ll still be on PC but instead, it’s coming to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, too.
Skull and Bones will also be Ubisoft’s first game to sell under a $70 / £70 price tag for new-gen consoles, something it previously hadn’t committed to.

Ubisoft will host another beta phase for Skull and Bones ahead of its release, though when this will take place has not been confirmed.

Ubisoft has released a handful of trailers for Skull and Bones so far but given the game’s overhaul during development and its new vision, the latest gameplay trailers show quite a different direction for Skull and Bones.
30-minute deep dive Following the most recent delay for Skull and Bones, Ubisoft released a 30-minute video showcasing some of the new gameplay mechanics. You can watch it below to get a better idea as to how the game has changed over the last year or so.
Ubisoft Forward This trailer for Skull and Bones reveals that Ubisoft has turned the pirate PvP title into more of a survival game. You’ll scour the seven seas for ships to destroy, hoover up their loot, and use that to craft new hulls and gear to buff out your vessel. Gameplay trailer E3 2018 brought us a gameplay trailer for Skull & Bones, showing off how things will work in the game’s cutthroat hunting grounds. It’s unclear how much of this gameplay we’ll actually see in the finished product. Check it out below:

Gameplay changes When Skull and Bones was first revealed it was more akin to Rainbow Six Siege than it appears now. The game was a small team PvP game where each player took on the role of ship, kitted it out with specialised guns and armor, and then the two teams would blast each other to splinters with their cannons and muskets.
That’s all changed, or at least it’s no longer the focus. Now, Skull and Bones is a survival game first. You start life as a shipwrecked pirate. You have to scout out resources to build a tiny, practically defenceless sailing vessel, and from those humble beginnings you will raise yourself up to become a pirate lord.
Using your ship you will sail around an open world, scouting out lumber, precious metals, and all the other resources you could need to craft equipment. You’ll face AI enemies, such as other ships, but also wild animals, like hippos and sharks. And you’ll harvest more resources and booty from them, using it to trade for money at pirate dens and other outposts, or use it in your crafting.

The best way to earn money, equipment, and blueprints is to take on contracts. These jobs will see you hunting down bounties, assaulting towns, or seeking out long lost treasure. The contracts you have access to are determined by your ‘infamy’ and completing contracts will also help your raise your infamy level.
Crafting While you can buy gear and ships with the booty you pick up, Skull and Bones lets you craft equipment to fit out your schooner.
As you roam the seven seas of Skull and Bones, you’ll discover blueprints. These may be rewards for completing contracts or hidden away at the bottom of treasure chests. They will be essential for the game’s crafting. With blueprints and resources you find in the world, either from scavenging shipwrecks, harvesting natural resources, or hunting animals in the sea, you can build entirely new ships, create new weapons and armor, and upgrade all of the fittings on your ship.
Some of the most powerful hulls and equipment will need to be crafted. So if you want to become the most fearsome pirate on the seven seas you’ll have to invest your time in crafting and blueprints.

Progression While you may start Skull and Bones as the victim of a shipwreck, left with no worldly possessions beside the shirt on your back, you won’t stay there for long. As is common for Ubisoft’s open-world games, as you explore the world, complete missions, take on enemies, and craft new gear, you will gain experience and level up.
Though, rather than call it experience, in Skull and Bones your experience is called infamy. After all, after booty and rum, the thing pirates like most is fame. As your infamy level increases you will gain access to new contracts, and as you complete contracts you will be rewarded with big lumps of infamy. It’s a virtuous circle.
Ubisoft wasn’t clear, but presumably your infamy will have other benefits, too, such as letting you access more powerful gear and ship hulls.
Skull and Bones Multiplayer

Skull and Bones started life as a PvP game, but it’s since evolved into a survival game that can be played entirely solo. It’s quite a drastic change from the original vision for Ubisoft’s open world pirate game. However, Skull and Bones multiplayer still exists in a changed form.
While the whole game can be played alone, you can open it up to other players, both friends and foes. When taking on a contract mission and set out into the world to earn loot, you can invite another player into your party, joining up to take on the mission together. While it will make the game a little easier and you will need to split some of the earnings, because you’ll often find yourself taking on more enemies and earning more loot than your hold can, er, hold, sharing it with a friend doesn’t mean you’ll end up with less.
You can also open up your game to enemy players, turning the seven seas into a PvP arena. While you can’t be attacked in the safe waters around a pirate den, as soon as you slip out of its boundaries you can be targeted by other players. Of course, on the way out to a mission you may not attract much attention but when you’re on the way back to port, your hold full of booty, enemy players will see you as a high value target on the amp and may come to hunt you down.
In this way, PvP and co-op do still have a part in Skull and Bones but it is in a much reduced form.

There will be multiple ship types in Skull and Bones, each with significant strengths and weaknesses. The three kinds Ubisoft confirmed in the Ubisoft Forward were Cargo Ships, Navigation Ships, and Firepower Ships. There may be more types we’ve yet to see, but as well as these categories, we know there are multiple hulls of each type, so there will be lots of opportunities to find the perfect ship for your playstyle.
Cargo Ships Larger and slower than the cover ship types, cargo ships have large holds that let you carry much more loot than any other ship type. While they may not be as good in a fight as the firepower ships, nor as fast as the navigation ships, if you take a cargo ship into battle you won’t need to leave any loot behind.
Navigation Ships While you won’t have much in the way of armor or hardpoints where you can install lines of cannons, the navigation ships are the fastest and most maneuverable type of vessel. Not only are they good for scouting ahead, in a battle a good captain will be able to weave between their enemies and stay ahead of their guns. Their other weakness is a small hold, so this ship type is best used when you have a friend to help pick up the loot after a battle.
Firepower Ships If you want to bring the fight to a battle then this is going to be the ship type for you. It may not be fast as fast or as maneuverable as a navigation ship, it may not have the armor or the hold of a cargo ship, but the firepower ship can load up the most guns, and dominate the battlefield.

Skull & Bones is ‘not a narrative-driven game’ If you’re hoping for a great story in Skull & Bones, you may want to temper those expectations. Speaking in an interview with True Achievements (opens in new tab), game director Ryan Barnard told us:
“Skull and Bones is not a narrative-driven game. We have narrative pieces — in the game, you’ll meet important NPCs called Kingpins which have their own stories that you’ll learn as you develop rapport with them by taking on contracts with them. There is an underlying story to the game with which we build the entire world lore, but that’s not the main focus. We want players to create their own stories and be able to choose the type of pirate they want to be.”
Instead, Barnard calls the progression system, Infamy, to be the driving force in this campaign. Given that this is a live-service experience, this isn’t that surprising that story isn’t the center of attention, though it may prove disappointing for those after a fresh single-player pirate adventure.
Skull & Bones is being adapted for TV Skull & Bones hasn’t been released yet but it’s been announced that it’s being adapted for TV. In a report by the Hollywood Reporter, it’s being said that Ubisoft is working with Atlas Entertainment on the project which will be “a female-driven drama set in the lawless frontier of the Indian Ocean at the end of the golden age of piracy in the 1700s”.
At the moment, that’s all there is to know—there’s no confirmed air date and no cast to speak of—but this will certainly be a project to keep a weather eye on.

Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition (PS4/PS5) Battle other gods in mythical brawls in Divine Knockout: Founder’s Edition, which launches directly into PlayStation Plus. Choose from one of 10 playable gods to hurl boulders as Hercules or wield Mjolnir as Thor. Then battle across arenas, each with their own mechanics to master. Nioh 2 (PS4/PS5) First up is Nioh 2, which is the sequel to the Souls-like action RPG Nioh. It’s developed by Team Ninja and has a focus on precision combat and tough boss battles. There’s even more combat styles this time around, and arguably tougher enemies to contend with. If Souls-like games are your thing, this is one of the best around.
Lego Harry Potter Collection (PS4) This Lego game collection bundles together both Lego Harry Potter games, spanning years 1-4, and then years 5-7. It’s a perfect game for kids to jump into, with fun block-breaking action and neat magical puzzles to solve. These games can be played in local co-op as well, which isn’t something you see all that much these days.
Heavenly Bodies (PS4/PS5) Finally, we have Heavenly Bodies. It’s a puzzle game that tasks you with solving a series of puzzles that play out in space. Without gravity, you’ll need to clamber around spacecrafts completing tasks. It’s all physics-based, and can be played with a friend in tow.Great for fans of puzzle games, and those fascinated by how different

Hot Wheels Unleashed (PS4/PS5) Hot Wheels Unleashed lets you live the Hot Wheels dream without any physical clutter. In it, you can collect, build and race, earning new cars which you can either race against friends in two-player split-screen, or online against up to 12 others. If you like to flex your creativity, the game even has a track editor so you can build your own wild, Hot Wheels tracks which can be shared for others to try.
Injustice 2 (PS4) Calling all DC and fighting game fans – this one’s for you. Injustice 2 is a game from the creators of Mortal Kombat which allows you to choose from a roster of DC superheroes and villains and put them against one another in seriously intense battles. You can either take on other players online or, if you like a bit of story, there’s also a single-player story campaign.
Superhot (PS4) If you’ve got an FPS itch, Superhot will surely scratch it. An innovative, refreshing and widely-praised addition to the genre, in Superhot, time only moves when you do. This forces you to engage your brain, assess the situation and think about your next move. Plus, its clean, bright visuals are always a pleasure to play in.

Need for Speed Heat (PS4) Put your foot down and race through the streets of Palm City in Need for Speed Heat, one of the stronger entries in the racing series. You’ll divide your time between day and night with a system that sees you take part in legitimate races during the former to earn cash for customization. Granblue Fantasy: Versus (PS4) Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a colorful, fast-paced 2.5D fighting from Arc System Works, a studio with a strong reputation for fighting game adaptations. Granblue Fantasy: Versus has received praise for its solid mechanics.
Toem (PS5) Toem is the PS5 game for this month and it’s a charmer, not to mention a BAFTA award-winner. With its hand-drawn black and white visuals and whimsical world, the clever photographic adventure offers a refreshing change of pace from the other titles in September’s offering.
Need for Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Versus and Toem will be available to download from September 6 until October 3, 2022.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PS4/PS5) Yakuza: Like a Dragon is arguably one of the best JRPGs of recent years and a total stand-out title in the overall Yakuza series. And it’s now a PS Plus game! If you’ve never played Yakuza before then this game is a pretty good entry point, letting you get stuck into its sprawling world, fun sidequests and excellent writing, without having to worry too much about how to play the Yakuza games in order.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Cross-Gen Deluxe Bundle (PS4/PS5) Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a remaster of the first two titles in the classic skateboarding series. In our review we called it a “faithful remake” and “the best skateboarding game in what feels like forever”, so if you were a fan of the originals then this is a total win. If you weren’t, then here’s your chance to find out what you were missing out on.
Little Nightmares (PS4) Rounding out August’s free games is Little Nightmares, a horror platformer with a tiny protagonist that makes a big impression. It’s on our list of the best horror games because it’s “a great example of a game that manages to inspire fear and disgust without using traditional blood and gore.” Little Nightmares puts you in the sneaking shoes of Six as she attempts to escape the dark, disturbing world that is The Maw, avoiding the wide array of giant and grotesque creatures that populate it.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Little Nightmares will be available to download from August 2 until September 6, 2022.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time(PS4/PS5) Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is an excellent sequel to 2017’s N. Sane Trilogy. Retconning all of Crash’s previous sequels beyond the third entry, It’s About Time sees us fighting Dr. Neo Cortex and N. Tropy once again, who’ve launched an attack on the entire multiverse. It’s not just Crash this time, we can also play as Coco, Tawna, Dingodile, and more.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan (PS4) The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan is another branching, cinematic horror game that we’ve seen arrive in recent years. Developed by the creator of Until Dawn and The Quarry, we find five friends going on a holiday diving trip, which quickly goes badly wrong. Your choices determine whether these playable characters live or die, and you can have five other friends join you.
Arcadegeddon (PS4/PS5) Arcadegeddon sees us playing as Gilly, a local arcade owner looking to save his business that’s threatened by a mega-corporation. Looking to make a new game to counter them, the company inject a virus into it, and this online co-op multiplayer shooter sees us taking up the fight.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, and Arcadegeddon will be available to download from July 5 until August 2, 2022.

God of War (PS4) God of War offered a fantastic reinvention of Kratos back in 2018. Adapting to unfamiliar Norse lands, this gave him a second chance at fatherhood. Together with his son Atreus, this action-adventure sees us setting out to fulfill a deeply personal quest.
If you’re playing on PS5, God of War has a 60fps patch, offering an even smoother experience. However, it’s been available through the PS Plus Collection on Sony’s latest console since it launched.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (PS5 & PS4) Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a licensed beat ‘em up reminiscent of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Crossing over Nickelodeons different series, that includes SpongeBob Squarepants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Danny Phantom, The Wild Thornberrys, and plenty more.
Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker (PS4) Naruto to Boruto is a co-op fighting game that pits characters from the Naruto universe against each other in 4v4 battles. Set Naruto Shippuden and Boruto: the Next Generation, this open arena fighting game tries to recreate Naruto’s action feel, letting you create your own avatar or play as your old favorites.
God of War, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker will be available to download from June 7 until July 5, 2022.

FIFA 22 (PS5 & PS4) The latest entry in the long-running soccer sim series, FIFA 22 on PS5 breathes new life into the series’ once-familiar gameplay with the addition of HyperMotion technology while making well-intentioned strides to refresh its most dated modes, including Career mode. FIFA 22‘s inclusion in PS Plus marks the first time a game in the series has been available as part of Sony’s PlayStation Plus service.
Tribes of Midgard (PS5 & PS4) Tribes of Midgard is a co-op roguelike adventure that’s garnered lots of positive reviews on Steam. The game tasks you with defending your Viking village from relentless creatures determined to bring about Ragnarok (the end of days). The longer you and your tribe survive, the greater the rewards.
Curse of the Dead Gods (PS4) Curse of the Dead Gods is a roguelike dungeon crawler that will feel familiar to those who have played the critically-acclaimed Hades.
“You seek untold riches, eternal life, divine powers – it leads to this accursed temple, a seemingly-infinite labyrinth of bottomless pits, deadly traps, and monsters,” the Steam description reads.
FIFA 22, Curse of the Dead Gods and Tribes of Midgard will be available to download from May 3 until June 7, 2022.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends (PS5 & PS4) An ambitious “PvPvE” multiplayer title, Hood: Outlaws & Legends pits teams of heroes and bandits against one another – and scores of AI-controlled enemies – to dominate control points on various maps.
Slay the Spire (PS4) Arguably one of the best deck-building games out there, Slay the Spire sees you ascending a tower, all while building unique decks of cards for use in turn-based combat. Each character has their own unique sets of cards, and the game’s roguelite elements loves to throw in random events that’ll either help or hinder your progress.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated (PS4) THQ Nordic’s remake of this classic platformer is delightfully silly, and is of a surprisingly high quality considering it’s a licensed title. While fans of the cartoon will certainly get the most out of this game, it’s a solid platformer in its own right that should provide you with hours of underwater fun.
Hood: Outlaws & Legends, Slay the Spire and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated will be available to download from April 5 until May 2, 2022.

Work together as a team to share power-ups and speed boosts, and unlock countless customization options to suit your racing style.
Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (PS5 & PS4) Ghost of Tsushima’s standalone cooperative multiplayer mode is available to PS Plus members this month. You can choose between four unique classes and progress through story missions with three other players.
Ghostrunner, Ark: Survival Evolved, Team Sonic Racing, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be available to download from March 1 until April 4, 2022.

Godfall: Challenger Edition (PS5 & PS4) Godfall is a looter-slasher action RPG set in a high fantasy world. Players take on the role of one of the last exalted Knight’s Order, with the aim of stopping a major apocalyptic event. Godfall offers plenty of weapon classes, armor sets and enemies to take down to keep you riveted. The Challenger Edition of the game offers three end-game modes: Lightbringer, Dreamstones, and the Ascended Tower of Trials. Players can jump into these quickly, however, as this edition equips them with the gear and skill points needed to partake in end-game content, while also letting you team up with up to two other players in co-op.
Lego DC Super-Villains (PS4) This Lego-themed adventure sees you creating your own supervillain to wreak havoc alongside DC villains like the Joker, Harley Quinn, and Lex Luthor. But, rather than causing chaos for the Justice League, this band of villains instead is tasked with protecting the earth from alternative dimension supervillains who are masquerading as heroes, following the League’s disappearance.
Mortal Shell (PS4) Mortal Shell is a single-player action RPG with Soulborne influences that sees you tracking down hidden sanctums of devout followers in an effort to discover your “true purpose”.

First Class Trouble (PS5 & PS4) You’ll need to use your deduction skills to determine which players are not what they seem in First Class Trouble. Two players take on the role of Personoids and will need to lie, deceive and do whatever it takes to prevent the other four players from shutting down a rogue A.I.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (PS4) Imagine if R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston teamed up to make a game… well, imagine no more! Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a pleasing remaster of an old action-RPG cult classic, so if you missed out the first time around, you’ve got no excuses not to play it now.
The Persistence (PSVR) Can you survive aboard a doomed deep space colony starship? In The Persistence, you’ll have to escape a mutated crew and prevent your ship from being torn apart in this sci-fi virtual reality horror game.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PSVR) Step into the world of The Walking Dead in Saints & Sinners for PlayStation VR. As you make your way through the ruins of New Orleans, you’ll need to fight, sneak, scavenge and survive against the walkers who have infested the city. The problem is: even other humans might not be friendly.
Until You Fall (PSVR) Swing your sword in the fantasy synthwave fighting game, Until You Fall. Move your arms to the soundtrack as you cast spells, attack enemies, and delve deeper into the fantasy, neon-lit world.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat! includes remastered versions of Overcooked! and and Overcooked! 2, along with new accessibility options so more people can play.
Hitman 2 Step into the polished shoes of Agent 47 in Hitman 2, and track and assassinate targets across a variety of exotic locations. With new ways to play, new game modes and new features, Hitman 2 lets your creativity (when it comes to killing) run wild.
Predator: Hunting Grounds In this asymmetrical shooter, you’ll either face off or take control of the Predator. Complete missions before the Predator hunts you down, or become the hunter yourself and use alien weaponry like the iconic shoulder-mounted Plasma Caster.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (PS4) Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 brings the series’ iconic zombies back into the fray, and includes a large-scale multiplayer battle royale mode called Blackout, which paved the way for Call of Duty: Warzone. WWE 2K Battlegrounds (PS4)Lay the smackdown in WWE 2K Battlegrounds in this over-the-top arcade action game. Pull off special abilities, make use of power-ups and enjoy classic match modes like steel cage matches and the Royal Rumble.

Operation: Tango (PS5)Operation: tango is a cooperative spy adventure that sees you and a friend teaming up – one as a hacker and one as an agent – to bring a global tech menace down, using only your voice to communicate (so you do need a microphone to play). Solve puzzles together, execute missions across the globe and utilize a bunch of hi-tech tools to become an unstoppable duo. Operation: Tango is online co-op only.
Star Wars Squadrons (PS4) Want to know how it feels to take part in a Star Wars space battle? Then you’re going to want to try Squadrons. Squadrons sees you taking part in first-person multiplayer dog fights alongside a squad of other pilots – either the Empire or the New Republic. What’s more, you also have the option to play Squadrons in PSVR for an even more immersive experience.
Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown (PS4) A remaster of the classic 3D fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 is a must-play for those who love one-on-one fighting games. While the original was a classic, Virtua Fighter 5 makes plenty of improvements on the original including HD graphics and new online features.
Operation: Tango and Star Wars Squadrons are available from June 1 until July 5. Virtua Fighter 5 is available from June 1 until August 2.

Wreckfest: Drive Hard, Die Last (PS5) From the developers of FlatOut, Wreckfest is a vehicular combat racing game that sees players racing and upgrading old bangers, adding extra armor and making them aesthetically look more pleasing before sending them out to the racetrack/destruction derby. With online multiplayer allowing for up to 24 players, carnage is almost certain to ensue.
Wreckfest has previously released on last-gen consoles, but the PS5 version is releasing on the day it arrives on PS Plus – May 4. That means PS5 owners can get their hands on the next-gen version on day one, as long as you’re an active PS Plus subscriber.
Battlefield 5 (PS4) Battlefield 5 is a first-person shooter set in World War 22 and the most recent entry in the Battlefield franchise. Players have the choice of jumping into online multiplayer modes, such as Grand Operations and the cooperative Combined Arms, or to take on the single-player campaign War Stories.
Stranded Deep (PS4) Open-world survival adventure Stranded Deep sees players stranded in the Pacific Ocean following a plane crash. It’s up to you to survive, hunting for supplies and crafting weapons, tools and shelter to stay alive.
Wreckfest, Battlefield 5 and Stranded Deep are available from May 4 until May 31.

Oddworld: Soulstorm (PS5) Abe is back and, once again, this accidental hero turned revolution leader is trying to save his fellow Mudokons. This time there are more than 1000 Mudokons to save and teamwork is the name of the game – with your army of rebels using their collective energy to help Abe solve the various puzzles he encounters.
Soulstorm serves as the second game in the Oddworld quintology, but promises to look much better than ever before, with 2.9D environments and stunning visuals – at a greater scale.
What’s more SoulStorm on PS5 utilizes the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback, allowing you to feel Abe’s heartbeat during moments of suspense.
While Soulstorm is also available to purchase on PS4, only the PS5 version is free with PS Plus in April.
Days Gone (PS4) PlayStation’s first-party action-survival horror Days Gone focuses on outlaw-turned-drifter Deacon St John as he battles to survive in a post-apocalyptic world and to be reunited with his wife.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War (PS4/PS5) Zombie Army 4: Dead War is a third-person shooter from the makers of Sniper Elite, which sees you gunning down zombies in 1940s Europe, either alone or with up to three friends. Thanks to a free PS5 upgrade for Zombie Army 4, PS5 players can take advantage of dynamic 4K @ 60fps with reduced load times.
Oddworld: Soulstorm, Days Gone and Zombie Army 4 are available from April 6 to May 3, Destruction Allstars continues to be available until April 2.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake (PS4) First released in 1997, Final Fantasy 7 immediately cemented its place as one of the best JRPG titles around and introduced millions of gamers around the world to the genre. The critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake does that legacy justice, completely recreating the opening portion of the original game, expanding a five to eight-hour section into a full 40-hour RPG, and showcasing some of the best gameplay and storytelling we’ve seen in a Final Fantasy game in almost 20 years – making it one of the best PS4 games around.
Maquette (PS5) Maquette, a first-person narrative puzzler from Annapurna, explores the relationship of Kenzie and Michael through a series of flashbacks and memories, starting with their meet-cute in a coffee shop where they scribble together in a sketchbook. But this isn’t a simple romance tale. Far from it. Instead, their story is told through the exploration of the game’s recursive puzzle world. With each step of progression and solved puzzle unearthing further memories that begin to piece together their relationship – and perhaps why it’s being told in the past tense.
Remnant: From the Ashes (PS4) Remnant: From the Ashes is a fantastic third-person shooter that sees you playing as one of the last remnants of humanity, determined to rebuild and retake your world after it’s been ravaged by an ancient evil from another dimension. You can play alone or squad up with a team of up to three players.
Farpoint (PS4/PSVR) Farpoint is one of the best PSVR games on the market. It’s a first-person VR shooter that sees you landing on a hostile alien planet after a routine mission goes wrong, with the aim being to find any survivors and keep yourself alive. Farpoint can be played alone or co-op with a friend and is perfect for those who love a sci-fi adventure.
Remnant, Maquette, Farpoint and Final Fantasy 7 Remake are available from March 2 until April 5, while Destruction Allstars continues to be available until April 2.

Destruction AllStars (PS5 only) Destruction AllStars was supposed to be a PS5 launch title, but it’s now available for free as part of PlayStation Plus. Choose between 16 competitors in this vehicular combat game, which combines parkour and driving with destruction and mayhem.
Control: Ultimate Edition (PS5 and PS4) Unleash your supernatural abilities in this third-person action adventure from Remedy Entertainment. You get the PS5 version as part of this giveaway, which means you can benefit from ray tracing support or a smoother frame rate.
Concrete Genie Bring a polluted town back to life using a magic paintbrush. Create Genies whose magical powers will aid you in overcoming puzzles and the pack of bullies that pursue you using Living Paint. Concrete Genie also includes two additional modes for PSVR owners.
Destruction AllStars is available February 2 until April 5. Control: Ultimate Edition and Concrete Genie are available until March 1.

Maneater This month’s PS5 game is Maneater, a single player survival game where you play as a shark. You’ll need to find the right resources and evolve far beyond what nature intended. Be prepared to gobble up some humans, too.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider Lara returns for another epic adventure in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Once again outgunned and outnumbered, Lara will need to use her surroundings to her advantage and strike from the shadows. Get ready to plunder plenty of tombs and overcome deadly puzzles.
Greedfall Greedfall gives you the freedom to shape your abilities, spells and skills in any way you see fit. Befriend or betray companions, discover riches, secrets and fantastic creatures, and explore uncharted lands in this impressive action RPG.

Vampyr This third-person action RPG from Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment has you playing as a doctor turned vampire. You’ll need to use your supernatural abilities to fight or flee from the forces of evil, and try not to succumb to your thirst for bloodlust.

Windows 11 might soon offer users the ability to run an in-place upgrade directly from the Settings panel, which would be a convenient option for those needing a swift way to repair problems with their PC.
The option to do this was spotted in the latest preview build of Windows 11 (version 25284) by @PhantomOfEarth (via Windows Latest (opens in new tab)), a Twitter-based leaker who regularly shares bits and pieces on the topic of Windows. Note, however, that it’s hidden right now, so Windows 11 testers won’t see this function unless they use ViVeTool (a Windows configuration tool).

The option is present in System > Recovery in the Settings app, and is labeled ‘Fix problems without resetting your PC’.
What this does is attempt to solve any issues you have with your system by fully reinstalling the current build of Windows 11. This effectively acts as a way to repair corrupt system files, for example, that may be causing your OS to misfire in one way or another, by replacing them (while leaving all your personal files and data, and apps, untouched).
Analysis: A feature that’s likely to make the cut
Naturally, reinstalling the current build of Windows is a fairly lengthy process, and as Microsoft notes in the text for the option, users should try running Windows troubleshooters before resorting to this method (and also don’t forget our guide to solving common problems with Windows 11).
Normally, performing a reinstall in this manner requires grabbing the appropriate installation media (the Media Creation Tool), so putting the option for an in-place upgrade (and repair) right there in Settings is a very convenient touch.
That said, this hasn’t even been enabled in testing just yet – it’s simply a placeholder option that doesn’t function, and as noted it’s hidden away to boot. However, there’s a good chance it’ll be sent live in a preview build before too long, as it seems like a useful addition for Windows 11 and one unlikely to cause any controversy. Still, there are many reasons features in testing may not pan out, so we can’t take it for granted that this is inbound for the release version of Microsoft’s OS.
Just keep those fingers crossed, because this would be a definite boon for users as an easy repair option when something has gone awry with Windows 11, and it’s not possible to figure out exactly what. Of course, those kinds of errors can be the most frustrating when Windows is behaving oddly and not giving you any sort of clue as to why.
Just when we thought we knew everything about Samsung’s Galaxy S23 phones ahead of their official announcement on February 1, a last-minute processor revelation has got us even more excited about their arrival.
Previous rumors had hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra would launch with a standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. But the latest intelligence suggests that Qualcomm has overclocked this already impressive processor with even more power to provide a custom-made brain for Samsung’s latest devices.
According to reliable leaker Roland Quandt (opens in new tab), models in the Samsung Galaxy S23 range will arrive sporting a bespoke ‘For Galaxy’ Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which seems set to edge Samsung’s flagship handsets even closer to Apple’s top-of-the-range iPhones when it comes to benchmark scores.
If you’re into your number-crunching, this specially-designed Snapdragon processor will allegedly be capable of reaching a maximum clock speed of 3.36GHz, where the standard chipset is limited to 3.2GHz (which is still impressively high).
This is big news for prospective Galaxy S23 customers and the Android mobile space at large. As TechRadar’s US Mobile Editor, Philip Berne, explained recently, last year’s Galaxy phones received “a mixed bag of Snapdragon and sub-par Samsung Exynos chips,” which meant that “some owners felt like they got an inferior model.”
That looks set to change this year. If the rumors are true, Qualcomm has seemingly agreed to overclock the Gen 2 chips for Samsung’s new flagship. In theory, this means that Samsung’s Android rivals may not be able match the S23’s benchmark performance. And as our US Mobile Editor argued previously, this “could also put Samsung within striking distance of Apple on benchmark scores for the first time.”
Analysis: Getting ahead of the game

We’ve previously heard rumblings about the Galaxy S23’s supposedly market-leading mobile gaming credentials, and Qualcomm itself has talked up the power of its standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor on several occasions. It figures, then, that a custom-made version of this chipset could be the key to making Samsung’s latest handsets some of – if not the – best gaming phones money can buy.
Inevitably, that power will come at a cost, and the latest rumors suggest that Samsung Galaxy S23 prices will vary widely between countries. In the US, for instance, we expect the company’s latest devices to cost the same as their Samsung Galaxy S22 counterparts (in other words, $799.99, $999.99 and $1,199.99). But customers in India, Turkey and most of Europe are looking at much higher prices, owing to the strength of the US dollar against more unstable international currencies.
In any case, we’ll learn more about the processors inside the Galaxy S23 range – and the prices they’ll demand – when Samsung’s new phones are officially unveiled during Samsung Unpacked 2023, which kicks off at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT on February 1, or 5am AEDT on February 2 in Australia.
