Google Chrome to get this important data privacy feature on Android
Google Chrome to get this important data privacy feature on Android

[ad_1]

Has it ever happened to you that you forgot to open the incognito tab on Chrome while browsing and then wanted to delete the history as soon as you are done visiting a particular website? Well, the previous version of Chrome allowed users only to delete the history and cache from the Settings page and that too only the history starting from an hour.
However, it looks like Google is planning to make it easier for Android users. Chrome Story has discovered a new flag tool within the Android version of Chrome that suggests the new delete browsing history feature.
Google is reportedly working on a new Chrome feature that’ll allow users to easily delete the browsing history of the last 15 minutes. Chrome Story has discovered that Chrome has received a new flag setting that suggests the new ‘delete browsing history’ feature in development.
According to the report, the feature will be a part of the overflow menu under the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the browser. The report also mentions that they aren’t sure about the browsing data actually being deleted from Chrome or if it is simply omitting the browser history from the URL and search fields.
As of now, it isn’t clear whether Google is actually planning to bring this feature to the stable version of the browser. But, we can expect to see the feature in the next versions of Chrome. Also, a similar feature is also expected to arrive on Chrome for iOS. However, it would come as a great addition for users and also improve the overall privacy of the web browser.
Google already allows users to delete the search history easily right from the drop-down suggestions options by tapping on the ‘x’ button in front of them. Bringing a similar feature on Chrome will put users more in control of their data.

Google invests $400 million in AI firm working on ChatGPT rival
Google invests $400 million in AI firm working on ChatGPT rival

[ad_1]

Ever since ChatGPT burst on the scene, there’s one company that has been in the conversation. And surprisingly, it is not Microsoft, which has actually invested billions in OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT but Google. Multiple reports have suggested that Google has gone into overdrive mode with its AI projects, since ChatGPT became the talk of the town. Lending credence to that claim is a new report by Bloomberg, which suggests that Google has made a substantial investment in a firm that is working on a ChaGPT rival.
According to the report, Google has invested close to $400 million in Anthropic. Anthropic is an AI safety and research company, which is reportedly working on a chatbot, which is very much like ChatGPT.
Google hasn’t officially commented on the deal but Anthropic did post on its official blog about the partnership with Google. In the blog post, Anthropic said that, “the partnership is designed so that the companies can co-develop AI computing systems; Anthropic will leverage Google Cloud’s cutting-edge GPU and TPU clusters to train, scale, and deploy its AI systems.”
“We’re partnering with Google Cloud to support the next phase of Anthropic, where we’re going to deploy our AI systems to a larger set of people,” said Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. “This partnership gives us the cloud infrastructure performance and scale we need.”

What does Anthropic do?

Anthropic is working on developing and deploying Claude, an AI assistant based on the company’s research into building safe, steerable AI, as per the company. The company claims that it has created safety techniques like Constitutional AI to create AI technologies that are easier to rely on and understand.
“We are eager to use the Google Cloud infrastructure to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. This partnership with Google Cloud will let us build a more robust AI platform,” said Amodei.

Explained: How Quora's ChatGPT rival work and other details about Poe
Explained: How Quora’s ChatGPT rival work and other details about Poe

[ad_1]

The OpenAI-developed artificial intelligence-based chatbot, ChatGPT has gone viral since its release in November 2022. The chatbot can process prompts to deliver human-like answers and can even write essays, articles, homework and even songs. In just a couple of months, ChatGPT has become so popular that the Microsoft-backed AI research startup has also started a paid version called ChatGPT Plus. The paid version of the chatbot is currently available only for customers in the United States.
However, some educators across the world have pointed out the negative impacts of ChatGPT on students. Moreover, several educational institutions, both in India and abroad have also imposed a ban on the chatbot. Yet, ChatGPT’s ever-growing traction has also been a threat to other companies like Google.
The search giant and other companies are also developing their rival chatbots to take on ChatGPT. Quora also has recently launched an app that allows users to communicate with several AI chatbots, including ChatGPT.
What is Poe
In December 2022, CEO Adam D’Angelo announced Quora’s chatbot named Poe which entered beta testing at that time. He said that Poe will allow users to ask questions, access instant answers, and have back-and-forth conversations with AI.
Now, D’Angelo has shared another tweet to unveil the public version of the chatbot (which was previously in beta testing). Currently, Poe’s public app can be downloaded only by iPhone users. The tweet thread also claimed that all major platforms will support Poe “in the next few months.”

How will Poe work
In his tweets, D’Angelo has explained that Poe will support “several bots” and its scope will be wider than other available chatbots. Poe’s main objective is to become a bot aggregator. This will help users to access several different chatbots. Moreover, a single app will also optimise chatbots that can be used for different tasks.
Importance of such a model
D’Angelo predicts that Poe will integrate several models like GPT-3.5 and chatbots like ChatGPT in the upcoming days. His tweet claims that these chatbots will “represent different points of view, or they will have access to different knowledge.”

He also emphasises the importance of Poe by stating that such models will be useful. D’Angelo says that the public needs a fast and easy-to-use interface, but he also believes that the companies behind these models are “not well suited to create these interfaces.”
Poe is expected to bridge this gap and “reduce the amount of work needed for any AI developer to reach a large audience of users.” For this, Quora is also developing an API that will enable AI developers to connect their models to Poe.

What are Large Language Models (LLMs)
LLMs are deep learning algorithms that are trained on massive amounts of text data. These language models are usually designed to mimic human speech. However, users can’t directly interact with them as they are just algorithms without an interface.
Poe’s goal is to become a one-stop solution for such LLMs. This will help the algorithms by providing a unified interface. Moreover, users also won’t have to depend on multiple interfaces to interact with language models.
Competitiveness in the AI space
The AI space currently faces cut-throat competition. Tech giants like Google and Microsoft are investing billions into LLMs/chatbots in an attempt to gain an edge over each other. Whether these companies will collaborate with Quora to adopt Poe as a unified platform remains unknown.

Correcting the autocorrect: Fixes to get those annoying spelling mistakes right on iPhone
Correcting the autocorrect: Fixes to get those annoying spelling mistakes right on iPhone

[ad_1]

It can be ducking annoying, no? As they say these days on social media #IYKYK or if you know, you know. If you don’t know then we are talking about autocorrect and how it really can land you in rather embarrassing situations. We tell you some quick fixes to fix autocorrect and teach your iPhone to spell better

Type, type until you succeed

One trick — rather cumbersome but can be effective — is to keep typing the same word again and again. For instance, the word you feel is being unnecessarily auto-corrected is “were” and it changes into “we’re”. What you do is just before it gets autocorrected, tap on the “x” button that pops up next to the suggested spelling. Keep doing this multiple times and the iPhone will not autocorrect it anymore.

Use Text Replacement

Text Replacement is a rather underrated feature in iPhones. What it does is that it allows you to create shortcuts for words which you often use and can get autocorrected. If any word you feel is being autocorrected, you can just add it to text replacement. The process is quite simple as all you need to do is: Go to Settings > General > Keyboards > Text Replacement. Here you can add as many words as you want and they will be replaced with the word of your choice.

The big turn off

In case you feel that autocorrect is really messing up conversations, you can choose to turn it off completely. Just go to Settings > General > Keyboards > Toggle off Auto-Correction. Once you turn this off you might feel that certain spelling errors are being made. To sort this out, you can just turn the spellchecker on. Under Keyboards you will need to toggle on Check Spelling and it will highlight spelling errors in red.

Press the reset button

This might sound daunting but it really isn’t a big deal. If you are a long-time iPhone user, then remember that the dictionary is backed up to iCloud, which means that old habits of typing will always follow you. If you want to reset your dictionary and give the iPhone a “fresh” start, then go to Settings > General > Transfer or Rest iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary. Now, you can teach your iPhone once again how you want certain words to be spelt out.

Elon Musk: Last three months were 'extremely tough', saved Twitter from ‘bankruptcy'
Elon Musk: Last three months were ‘extremely tough’, saved Twitter from ‘bankruptcy’

[ad_1]

SAN FRANCISCO: Elon Musk on Sunday Twitter Inc is “trending to breakeven” after he had to save it from “bankruptcy.”
The billionaire said in a tweet Sunday that the last three months were “extremely tough.” He had to juggle the rescue of the social-media platform with responsibilities at two other companies he oversees — Tesla Inc and Space Exploration Technologies Corp, or SpaceX.
“Wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone,” Musk said.
Daily user count and user minutes are “still strong,” Musk said in a follow-up tweet.
Musk last year completed a $44 billion deal for Twitter that gave him control of the company for $54.20 a share. Also last year, he became the the first person in history to have $200 billion erased from his fortune, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index.
Since the takeover, Musk has openly and frequently talked about the possibility of bankruptcy for Twitter. Still, the platform made its first interest payment on the $12.5 billion in debt that the new owner used to take it private last year, bolstering confidence in his ability to avert bankruptcy in the near term.
